For Men

Guys, We’re Here For You

Did your partner just find out she is pregnant and you aren’t sure what you should do?

At LifeTalk Resource Center, we understand that an unplanned pregnancy can be a stressful and confusing time for men as well. It is important for both of you to have a safe place to discuss your situation and receive accurate information about her pregnancy.

When you come in for your appointment, we can go over many ways for you to help. For now, here is some advice to benefit you and your partner:

  • Listen
You are involved, but this situation involves more than just you. You and your partner are now making decisions for you, her and the baby. Your best course of action is to listen and respond to her needs.
  • Remain Calm
She needs your support now more than ever. Although she is the one carrying the baby, you are both parents. No matter how stressed you might feel, do your best to keep your emotions under control and do not lash out or assign blame to your partner. You two need to work together and remain in sync during this journey.
  • Talk
Talk about the situation together with your parents and others who are close to the pregnancy. You will both be better off sharing your thoughts and feelings rather than attempting to cover them up. This will only cause you both more stress.
  • Be Honest
You might have feelings of anger, frustration, and fear – these are common. While you should do your best not to put more stress on her or make her feel blamed, sharing with her is important. She is also likely experiencing these feelings, so she will appreciate knowing that she is not alone.

If you want another guy to talk to about your current situation, LifeTalk Resource Center is here for you. Make a free appointment today to get your questions answered and your concerns addressed in a confidential, non-judgmental setting.
